Cane Pace Highlights Eligibles' Events

By Frank & Ray Cotolo

The holiday weekend continued on Sunday and through Monday with Breeders Crown eligibles in full array.
               One More Laugh
One More Laugh wins the Cane Pace
The Cane Pace on Monday, Sept. 6, was the feature at Freehold and was a big success for One More Laugh, who won and broke the stakes record. The biggest move of the race could not win it but nonetheless was impressive. Rockin Image got second after a big three-wide brush. Third at 60-1 was Urgent Action.

The rest of the field, all eligibles, were Woodstock, Valentino, Delmarvalous, I’m Gorgeous and Foreign Officer. "Laugh" looks to the Little Brown Jug to probably meet Rock N Roll Heaven again.

Soph-filly pacers had their own battle at Freehold in the Shady Daisy. Rock N Soul, who lighted the toteboard with a place at 80-1 on Hambo day, won this at 9-5. Full Picture was second and Dancin Barefoot completed the trifecta. Four of the others in the field are eligibles, including Western Moonlight, It’s Only Rocknroll, Naughtytiltheend and Rockaroundthetrack.

Soph-filly trotters took each other on again, this time in a Simcoe Stakes at Mohawk on Sept. 6 and Costa Rica continued to show her late-season prowess with a win over Bramalea Hanover. Poof She’s Gone burned out by three-quarters, short again though her trip to get the lead was stressful. Wilsonator got third.

Two-year-old filly pacer Cold Mist was the best at 7-2 among the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes champion final field at Chester on Sept. 5. Not Nice won the frosh-colt trot final, with Orlando second at 15-1 and the favorite, Luckycharm Hanover third. Wink N Atchya was tons the best among the field of the frosh-colt pace final with Mr Carmine Fra following him.
